The lightness of trusting the 'Trustee' (Al-Wakil), stopping grieving for things we cannot control.
The main source of stress is our desire to control everything. We cannot control traffic, the weather, what others think, or the future. Accepting this fact (submission) is liberation. When Prophet Abraham was thrown into the fire, he could not control whether the fire would burn or not, but he could control his faith. Result: The fire became a rose garden. Instead of fearing the fires in our own lives, we must display an Abrahamic stance. You sow the seed, do the watering; making the flower bloom is Allah's job.
Praying is confessing one's helplessness and this gives a person incredible strength. Saying 'I can't do it but You can, I don't know but You know' is a psychological release. Scientific research shows that people who pray cope with difficulties more easily. Prayer is not desperation, but submitting a petition to the highest authority. Tell Him your troubles when you put your head on the pillow at night. He (SWT) never gets tired of listening to you.
One of the biggest causes of anxiety is the worry of livelihood. Our Prophet says, 'If you relied on Allah as He should be relied on, He would provide for you as He provides for the birds. They go out hungry in the morning and return full in the evening'. The bird does not wait in its nest; it flies, searches, strives but does not fall into depression asking 'will I starve?'. The guarantor of sustenance is Allah. Our duty is to seek through halal means and be content with what we find. Greed drives away abundance; tawakkul brings sustenance to your feet.
"What will happen tomorrow? Will I lose my job? Will I pass the exam? Will I get sick? Our mind is constantly busy writing disaster scenarios. Modern psychology calls this 'anxiety'; our faith defines it as 'lack of tawakkul'. Of course, we will take precautions, we will work; but worrying about the result is shouldering a burden that cannot be carried. Come, let's leave that heavy burden to its owner, that is Allah, and witness how our soul lightens."
Tawakkul does not mean laziness. The hadith 'Tie your camel, then trust in Allah' sets the standard. The person who does their best and leaves the rest to Allah is the strongest person in the world. Because they know; if He (SWT) does not give, there is a wisdom, if He gives, there are a thousand blessings. Anxiety does not solve tomorrow's troubles, it only steals today's peace. Saying 'Hasbunallahu wa ni'mal wakil' (Allah is sufficient for us, and He is the best Disposer of affairs) is not just a dhikr, but a life philosophy. Let the real Captain steer the helm of life; you enjoy the view.
